Functional orthodontic treatment

The functional orthodontics is a part of orthodontics, which takes advantage of the patients’ growth and use this growth to correct specific skeletal problems. By adapting the function and position of the muscular system, we are able to achieve a stimulation or even the restriction of the growth in a specific direction. Thus, we are able to correct difficult skeletal problems and achieve a reduced time therapy with the braces.

The treatment with functional appliances like activator or bionator is applied at patients who are still in the growth phase (before or during puberty). The appliances used, are mainly removable appliances, which must be worn according to the doctor’s instructions. They help to promote or modify growth of the jaws, adapt the soft tissues and muscles of the face to new positions.
